Ahead of September 22 protest, G20 accuses MRC of “plans to destabilise the nation”

The G20 political movement has condemned a planned protest by the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM, describing it as a plot to destabilise the nation. This was in a press conference at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel today September 18. Among the G20 parties represented was the Democrat Patriots for the Development of Cameroon (PADDEC) of Minister Jean de Dieu Momo. Among other things, it accuses Kamto and his MRC party of attempting to destabilise the nation. It also praises the government for the planned December 6 regional election, calling for the arrest of Kah Wallah and Barrister Alice Nkom over declarations made ahead of the protest. Tensions are high as the MRC insists on protesting despite government’s prohibition and warnings. The G20 is one of several political movements to condemn the planned protest. Some bike riders in Douala yesterday visited administrative officials, promising not to partake in the protest. The MRC has maintained that regardless of government bans, its plans will ensue. It calls on supporters to ensure everything they do in the context of the protest is peaceful.
