Bamenda university students say online platform horrible

Some students of the University of Bamenda, UBa have repeatedly decried the unfriendly nature of the university’s online student portal which is used to access their end of semester results and for other academic purposes.

While talking to CNA reporter, some say the platform has “swallowed” their money and is unable to provide their results.

“Can you imagine I payed 500frs twice, but I am still unable to see my results? Since Wednesday February 22 night I can’t access my results till date. The system keep telling me failed/poor network of which my network is really good and I am accessing other portals,” a student whose identity has been withheld for safety reasons lamented.

The said student went ahead to say their problem is not the amount of money they have lost, but the system which can’t give them results even after 40 hours describing it as a “shame to the institution”.

While some students blame the situation on the administration of the institution, others put the blame on the site that hosts the platform.

“We always have this issue each time results are published. Since I was admitted in UBa in 2020 I always get up 2am when network is stable to check my results because of network, but this time around is the worst,” another student said.

The students have said though there is another option of checking results on campus, the institution is on break “and even if you go there they will ask you to check online”.

However, authorities of the university circulated messages on student forums after the results were released, warning and advising that students should not pay twice if the platform demands.

“Payments Notice!
Dear students,
Following the publishing of results for this semester and a sharp increase in payment transactions, some payment providers may take longer to confirm the status of your transaction. If for any reason your transaction is not reflected on the UBaStudent platform upon completion, please hold on for TEN minutes and check again. If it persists, report to the UBaStudent online support desk and it will be resolved,” a message on the platform states.

The university of Bamenda student platform was introduced in 2018 to ease transactions like fee payment, course registration, and online publication of results within the institution.

As an institution that trains students in computer, ICT, communication and others, many still blame the administrators of the university for not allowing their students to build and manage a better platform for the school, especially in a digital era like this.
