The governor of center region of Cameroon Naseri Paul Bea had ban unauthorized public gathering in the capital city of Yaounde and its environs till further notice The gubernatorial ban was issued on September 9th 2020 through a press release. On September 11th 2020, his counterpart of littoral region, a fertile ground of MRC militants issued a similar ban The bans come barely days after Kamto’s MRC announced a national protest on September 22nd to oust the president Biya from power Kamto had vowed to topple the government if they announced a date for regional elections without changing electoral laws and solving the Anglophone crisis On September 7th, President Biya made good of his promise to convene electorate to the polls for regional elections, choosing December 7th as the date and angering kamto and his supporters who responded with a day of protest to oust him Territorial administration minister had warned protesters could face life imprisonment if they heed to the call of the opposition leader to protest and disrupt public order, but Kamto and his team has remained defiant ever since The polls will put in place councils provided for in a 1996 constitution in a move towards decentralization but not yet implemented. The regions will elect 90 Councillors, who will have limited powers on local issues. Twenty of them will be representatives of traditional chieftains.
