EDUCATION RETURNS TO LEBIALEM AFTER FOUR YEARS OF LOCKDOWN
In Wabane, one of the Subdivisions of Lebialem, schools have resumed in the village of Bechati, two secondary schools, two primary and two nursery schools have not opened their doors since November 2016 but today they have and children are very happy to return to school.
Most of the children attending school are doing so for the first time in four years since the Anglophone crisis started in 2016. Many families and parents who could afford fees and rents had already sent their children to neighbouring towns like Dschang, Bamenda, Buea and other towns to acquire quality education.
Separatits fighters have been very active against school resumption in lebiaem division, specifically in Wabane and Alou Subdivisions, where several villages have being undeer control and are still under the separatists fighters control.
A witness recounts that, schools were supposed to resume earlier but the separatist leaders, had been making life very unbearable for many communities and villages in the area and that Recently the said separatist leaders was attacked by co-separatist fighters from neighbouring communities, who destroyed their camp, weakening their authority overe the communities. Meanwhile, The Cameroon military, last month, also neutralised fierce separatist Commander, “General Ayeke”, reigniting hopes for more peace in the non peace Lebialem Division.
Considering the village rich agricultural blessings and its ability to produce almost all crops produced in Cameroon, Lebialem has been off from the country with very little movement into and out of the division for the past four years of the Anglophone conflict.
