More to note is the fact that Messi did it in 2 seasons fewer (17) than Pelé (19) and will set his own record the very next time he scores for FC Barcelona.
In South America Pelé also stands the chance of losing another record to the same Lionel Messi for the most international goals scored, with Messi's 70 goals only behind Pelé's 77.
