The decision to take a break from all media-related debate activities was taken by the president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), Maurice Kamto in a memo on Monday, September 7, 2020. This decision arrived at by Maurice Kamto came after President Paul Biya convened the Electoral Colleges for the upcoming regional elections to be held nationwide on December 6th, 2020. Cameroon-info.net reports that the announcement was made public while one of its members, Fotsing Nzodjou was active on Equinox TV taking part on the daily evening program, “Equinox Soir”.He reportedly had to quit the program as soon as the memo got to him as was announced by program host, Serge Allain Ottou. “He is no longer with us…he left because he received a note from the CRM which suspends all participation of the party from radio and TV debates until further notice. It is a decision of the national president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, Maurice Kamto,” revealed Serge Alain Ottou. It is widely speculated that the decision by Kamto to withdraw the party from the media is a strategic move which shows his intentions to carry out his promised threats against the regime. This especially may not be farfetched given that the president did choose to organise the regional elections without satisfying the preconditions that the CRM party president had set as a prerequisite for peaceful elections in the country.
