Dr. Simon Munzu holds government, international community to task over killings in NW, SW

Dr. Simon Munzu has frowned at individuals, the government of Cameroon and international bodies that have set their limit of intervention into the Anglophone crisis at mainly condemning atrocious killings without further steps to end the tension. In a facebook publication, Wednesday August 26th 2020, the former top administrator in Cameroon revisits how individuals, the government and the international community poured messages of condemnation two weeks ago when a 35 year old woman Tumasang Comfort was butchered in Muyuka in the South West region of Cameroon. Without stating per se that the condemnations are not welcome, Dr. Simon Munzu is bothered by the fact that since the violence phase of the Anglophone crisis stated in 2016, those who condemn the killings, kidnappings, burnings and general destructions don’t take actions to stop the war once and for all. He states “…They condemn and call for prosecution of perpetrators and after that go silent satisfied of haven cleared their conscience”. “Isn’t it time that these national and international actors went beyond mere condemnation of the perpetrators, demands for justice and expression of compassion for the victims? Aren’t they in the best positions in the world to work in a concerted manner to pressure the protagonists in the senseless war raging in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon to end the fighting and its trial of death, destruction and suffering and to return the afflicted regions to normalcy? What is making such concerted action so difficult?” The former official of the United Nations Organization cannot really understand what is blocking the government and international bodies with all human and material resources to bring the war to an end. Dr. Simon Munzu goes on to challenge people of the North West and South West regions of Cameroon home and abroad “…to take centre stage in the search for a definitive solution to the armed conflict and its horrendous consequences”. Dr. Simon Munzu, former member of the organizing committee of the Anglophone General Conference (AGC) has over the years stood for a federal system of governance in Cameroon. To him, the system will permit people of the North West and South West regions to fully exercise their anglo saxon cultural, linguistic, judicial and educational heritage. Mimi Mefo Info.
