Some English Language Newspaper Publishers in Cameroon, on Saturday, August 15, 2020 paid a condolence visit to late Chief Foanyi Nkemayang Paul’s family, at their Bonadikombo (Mile four) Limbe residence.
The visit was led by the publisher of The SUN Newspaper, Wasso Norbert Binde and the proprietor of the Eden Media Group, Chief Zachee Nzohngandembou, who comforted the family especially the wife, Mrs. Clara Elangwe Nkemayang in words and gifts.
According to the publishers, their aim of visiting was to condolewith the deceased’s wife and family and to encourage them toremain strong. During the visit, they also promised to always be by the Nkemayang family to support them whenever the needarises.
Speaking in turns, Norbert Wasso stressed that their visit was not to re-open the pains following the demise of their colleague and friend but to show the wife and family that they are not alone. He urged the wife to stand by her Christian faith even as she mourns her husband knowing that it was God’s will.
Chief Nzohngandembou on his part, also pleaded with the wife to remain strong, averring that the two of them were representing a small group of publishers and not the larger English language publishers. This group decided to make a financial gesture to support the wife and children during this very difficult and painful moment.
Chief Nzohngandembou and Norbert Wasso were representing CRTV Buea’s station manager and publisher of Summit magazine -Kange William Wasaloko, Gerard Ndikum of The Horizon, Theodore Mih Ndze of The Voice, Polycarp Labah of Breaking News Tribune and Tarhyang Enohbikah of the Advocate. The team was accompanied by a representative from The Advocate, Mbonda Lizzy and a friend of the media.
It should be noted that late Chief Foanyi Nkemayang Paul was one of the leading campaigners for media rights in Cameroonand publisher of The STAR Newspaper, who died June 18, 2020, and was laid to rest on Saturday, July 25, 2020 in Limbe.The late traditional ruler reportedly died of a diabetic coma at the Presbyterian Health Centre in Down Beach Limbe. He founded The Star Newspaper in January 1991.
The Knight of the National Order of Valour was pioneer President of the Commonwealth Journalists Association, CJA Cameroon cumulatively serving as Vice President of CJA Africa. Chief Nkemayang Paul was a founding member of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists, and a founding member of the National Communication Council.
He was also technical adviser to the Cameroon Anglophone Newspaper Publishers Association, and a traditional ruler in his native Lebialem. He was crowned Osari Maribu in Manyu among other traditional titles he received.
Chief Nkemayang dedicated his over three-decade journalism career fighting for a better society, improved working conditions for journalists and the abolition of obnoxious and archaic media laws.
As a journalist, he had no fewer than eight detentions without trial. Chief Nkemayang’s courage and readiness to continue doing his work in truth won him several distinctions at home and abroad. Due to his strides, he was decorated even at death.
